"The Detour"

Stepping out in RED shoes!
- Day 12 -

Road Trip!

Today was the beginning of a short road trip with my daughter, Grace.  We packed up everything we needed and off we went!  Our first stop was Granny's house.  My mom lives about an hour from me and she's right off the highway.  That being said, I find it ever so difficult to pass by, without at least a brief visit.   It just wouldn't be right to pass by!  This time, that's all it would be -- a brief visit.  We only had about an hour to spare, but when I called her, she was up for it.  We pulled off the highway and into her driveway.

Stepping out in RED shoes is a continuation
of last year's RED Shoe Project.

This time, however there's a greater emphasis on:

 Stepping Out by faith
to work in partnership with the Holy Spirit.

Today at my mom's,  I couldn't help but observe how my daughter Grace exudes the love of God.    "How does she do that?"  you ask.  She does that by just being herself.  That's what so darn amazing about it!  So often, we try so hard -- only to end up stumbling over our Christian faith like a buffoon.  It's so much better when it just pours out of you naturally.  Don't you agree?

That said, there are many times I've gone into my daughter's room, early in the morning, and caught her on her knees praying and reading the Word.  She's no slacker when it comes to podcasts, downloads and Bible studies that feed her spiritually.  She's a regular at church, and whenever possible she makes it a point to be involved.

Overall, she has a nutritious, well-balanced
 spiritual diet that's consistent.

It's so funny... she just walks into my Mom's house and the whole atmosphere changes.  The "son" comes shining in!  She's so genuinely happy to see her grandmother.  Even after the hellos and hugs, her total focus is her grandmother.  You might think that she has a plan in mind -- that there's some sort of strategy involved.

 There is...  it's called
 "Love the One You're with!"

Whether it's her grandmother or anyone else, she has an amazing ability to stay in the moment and truly love her neighbor.  That's awesome!

This all reminds me of  Matthew 22:36-37.

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

Jesus replied:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second is like it:
Love your neighbor as yourself
All the Law and the Prophets hang
on these two commandments."

Don't you hate diversions?  Once I'm on the road, I like to focus and get to where I'm going.  What -- of any value -- could possibly occur during a one hour detour?  One of the best object lessons I've seen in a long time -- that's what!  I caught my daughter stepping out in RED shoes!
