- Day 141-
God's been preparing me for
today's step of faith since childhood.
I've been practicing all my life!
At the center of it all, is the challenge at hand:
The Ginormous Water Slide.
To a kid, it's bigger than life! It's fascinating and scary all at the same time. It simply MUST be conquered! Without hesitating one grabs their water mat and heads for the line. It's a long line. Everyone wants in on the challenge. You don't know when you'll actually reach the top, but you've got to start sometime.
There's no time like the present!
- You think about it -- what it will be like.
- You talk about it with those around you.
- You hear all the stories, good and bad.
- You can't wait for your turn!
- People give you instruction.
- They tell you what to do and what not to do.
- You try to remember it all.
- Hey... If everyone else in line can do it, surely you can!
- You picture it in your mind.
- You remind yourself of the steps.
- You rehearse it over and over again.
- You want so much to do it right!
As you get closer, you try to review the process in your mind, but it's jumbled. You're just too excited to think! Your heart is beating so fast, it's hard to breathe. Your palms are sweating. Are you shaking? You take a deep breath.
Suddenly it's your turn!
It's your moment!
The path is clear for you to step forward.
There's no one in front of you.
You've got to go -- NOW!
If you hesitate, you'll be pushed to the side and someone else will go. You'll be left behind. You'll have missed your opportunity -- your shot -- your turn -- your time! The attendant waves for you to step forward. "Come on!"
There it is! He pushed you.
You're off!
It's happening! It's begun!
You're moving!
Yahooooo!
Time magically distorts itself. A second is like a minute and a minute is like a second -- you're not sure which. Perhaps it's even stopped? Then you realize it's all coming to end, fast. The moment is over. You've landed. You're smiling. It's done. You breathe. Too short a time for so much fun. Perhaps you need to do it again? Sometimes that's an option, sometimes not.
Sometimes you only get ONE try,
so you better make the most of it!
As I sit here, the Holy Spirit reminds me that there have been many moments in my life, just like this one:
- The 1st day of school
- My 1st kiss
- That BIG test
- Stepping onto the stage and reciting my lines in the school play
- The 5 second drum solo in the Jr. High Orchestra
- The toast I gave at my friend's wedding
- Every job interview I've ever had
- Saying to God, "I give You my life 100%!"
- Getting baptized in water
- Receiving the Holy Ghost and speaking in other tongues
- The births of my children
- Teaching class
- Preaching a sermon
- Jumping out of a plane
- Moving out in the Gifts of the Spirit
- Praying out loud with others
- Laying hands on the sick and petitioning God for healing
- Speaking forth a prophetic word
- Battling the forces of darkness in the prayer closet
- Writing a book
- Writing a blog
- Stepping out the door in RED shoes!
- The excitement builds.
- You step into the moment.
- You go with the flow.
- You step into the moment.
- You go with the flow.
- You enjoy the ride!
Lord -- How could I have possibly missed that? Help me to relax more in You and go with the flow of the process. For your glory! Amen.
Gail
